What is Marketplace Ministry?

Marketplace ministry is the belief that every sphere of work is a God-given opportunity to serve others, reflect Christ, and steward excellence. It is not about preaching at work, but rather embodying biblical principles within the rhythms of professional life.
Marketplace ministry is rooted in these ideas:
Work is worship. In marketplace ministry, the way you lead a team meeting, resolve conflict, design a product, or serve clients becomes an offering—demonstrating integrity, diligence, humility, and compassion. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
Influence happens with presence, not title. Marketplace ministry is peer-led. You don’t need a pastoral title to make a spiritual impact. Many of the most powerful moments happen in workplaces: listening to a coworker who is discouraged, approaching ethical dilemmas with courage, or modeling grace under stress.
Leaders are catalysts for the future. If you want faith-based leadership, biblical principles, or Godly-orientation, then that must be modeled and reward at all levels. Workplaces shape families, communities, and economic futures. Bringing Christian values into these spaces changes how decisions are made, how people are treated, and how success is defined.
Calling is not a church job. Similar to non-pastoral leadership, God works through all tools. Biblical examples—from Joseph and Esther to Lydia and Daniel—show that God has always used professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and artisans to accomplish His purposes.
But Prism Coaching isn't a marketplace ministry... why care?
Well, firstly, to help you make an informed decision. What values are important to you, and what do you look for in a coaching agency? Are you looking for faith-based coaching, or do you prefer a secular business profile?
Secondly, Prism Coaching does partner from time to time with marketplace ministries who provide coaching, so it's important to know the distinction and through which avenue you'd like to receive coaching.
Finally, Prism Coaching does share several of the core beliefs of marketplace ministries. Although our coaching is evidence-based, we do support the leadership principles identified. Namely, that leaders are the source of change, but everyone has an obligation to recreate their desired culture. We also believe that we are called to our service, to provide coaching regardless of religious affiliation.
But no matter what you choose, know that you may receive excellent care and support from either business model. If you'd like to know more, schedule of a free consultation. We'd be happy to answer any questions!
